Using the centuries-old method of pure vegetable tanning and hand finishing, the single tannery still producing genuine shell cordovan today is indeed practicing a rare art. The tanning process takes a full six months to complete and produces leather that is soft and supple, yet very durable, dovetailed heels, full glove leather lined flexible pure vegetable tanned leather insoles. Unsurpassed for breathable comfort and long wear, it assumes over time the contours of your foot shape giving a truly custom quality to the fit. Beneath the insole is a layer of cork, providing additional resilience and insulation. For reference, here are the approximate measurements (taken along the outsole): Length - 12.125" Width (at the ball of foot) - about 4.125" These shoes have seen some wear, but have been maintained well. They appear to have been resoled/reheeled at some point, but it was done exceedingly well, with the benefit of added Topy as well. I gave theses shoes the total shell cordovan works; cleaned them inside and out with Weimans Leather Wipes, rehydrated the leather insoles and lining with Weimans Leather Conditioner Liquid, then deep cleaned and conditioned with Lexol Cleaner and Conditioner, further deep conditioned with Saphir Médaille d'Or Lotion, mitigated folding/rolling with Ebony Stick treatment (and additional Lotion), oiled the soles with Saphir Médaille d'Or Sole Guard, and polished with Saphir Médaille d'Or Cordovan Cream. Lastly, using the most expensive shoe brush money can buy – The Kirby Allison Wellington Yak Hair Shoe Shine Brush – I gave a final buffing. These shoes come from a pet and smoke-free home.
