Alden 968 Brown Calfskin Norwegian Front Blucher

Preowned Alden factory seconds (FD) Norwegian split toe derbies on Aberdeen last, in US size 9D.  The brown calfskin leather uppers features Alden's signature handsewn vamp and handsewn split toe with a distinctive American piecrust pattern.    When viewed from the side, the heel's double sloped curved stitch lines gives this shoe an aesthetically pleasing counterbalance, compared to split toe derbies from other brands with plain, undecorated heel cups (such as the more austere Saint Crispin 575).   At the very rear of the shoe on the exterior heel cup, the vertical rectangular box-stitching on the leather - purposefully sewn with misaligned angles - gives the Alden NST an extra flair of casual fun and wabi sabi zen. The "3G17" handwriting on the interior leather lining indicates this pair was crafted in 2023.  I purchased these new from a retailer in April 2025, and have worn less than 10 times.   Unfortunately, my feet dimensions are in direct conflict with the features of Alden's Aberdeen last.  The Aberdeen last has a narrow toe box, low instep, and very roomy heel cup and heel opening.   As I age into my late 30's, I sadly have to prioritize function over form in footwear choices moving forward, as my arches are no longer strong enough to accommodate shoes which are visual works of art but result in discomfort when used because they don't fit the shape of my feet (which are wide at ball, very tall instep, high arches, super skinny heel). Factory defects: (1)  Left shoe's heel cup - see photo #13 showing vertical, wavy leather rumples on the leather upper at where the heel meets the welt (2)  Right shoe toe box -  see photo #11 for a very small chip in the leather upper.  Located below the handsewn pie crust stitch line, and to the right of the split toe.  After using dark brown shoe cream, this blemish now looks like a black dot. Wear and tear: (1)  Heel stack - see photos for wear on the rubber top lifts on each shoe (2)  Leather outsole -  see photos for wear on the toe area.  The wear has not yet reached the midsole on either shoe. (3)  Wrinkles and waves the leather uppers across each shoe's toebox and vamp areas (4)  No wax polish has ever been applied.  Brooks Brothers dark brown shoe cream (now discontinued) has been applied twice for conditioning of leather uppers. Once in April, once in June. Ships double boxed, with a mismatched white Alden Factory Seconds (FD) shoebox inside an exterior cardboard box.
