Alden 54322 Color 8 Shell Cordovan V-Tip Blucher

Alden Algonquin toe (V tip) derbies made on the Modified last with color 8 shell cordovan, size 8.5 D.   Single leather sole, with Thomas heel.  Interior is fully lined.  The modified last is celebrated by Alden enthusiasts for its wide toe box, high instep, magnificent arch support, and narrow heel cup. 54322 is a Beams retailer-exclusive model # for the standard 54321 that is stocked by multiple retailers.  The handwriting on the interior lining indicates this pair was manufactured in 2023.   I purchased it from TSM's factory seconds (FD) inventory in July 2025.  It was intended to be stashed away as a future surplus pair to my regular-wear pair of 54321's, and I've only worn this pair once indoors for a few hours.  After a year of wearing the 54321 and bearing through the occasional toe pinch on my wider right foot, I've come to realization I need to either go up a width or up a half size on the Modified last.  I am size 9.5 E US brannock.  While 8.5 D Modified in shell cordovan fits immaculately in the morning, it becomes uncomfortably tight later in the day or after reaching the 10k steps threshold on longer walks.  Unlike my modified derbies in calfskin in 8.5 D which have stretched across the widest part of my feet over the past year, my 54321 in shell cordovan has not stretched.   Manufacturing defect on this pair:   on the right shoe's exterior heel cup, one of the rows of stitching ran 1 mm too far to the right, over the center vertical seam.  See photos 13 and 14 Ships with the factory seconds white shoe box originally mated to this pair.
