In my opinion these dark areas are a result of black polishing being use on these shoes. The shell cordovan leather is in good condition throughout with no deep scratches or scrapes, however there are a number of faint scuffs at the to the back heel area, particularly at the inside side of the right heel. There are scratches to the front toe at the left shoe. The original soles show visible wear, but are very firm to the press with about 75% of their original life remaining.
