Dieser Alden Long Wing Blucher ist ein fundamental verankertes Derby-Modell der amerikanischen Schuhmacherkunst. Mit der weltweiten Verbreitung des modernen Rasierhobels im frühen zwanzigsten Jahrhundert brach die Nachfrage nach Pferdeleder, das zuvor massenhaft für Rasiermesser-Streichriemen benötigt wurde, drastisch ein. Um dieses Material vor dem Verschwinden zu bewahren, schloss die Alden Shoe Company im Jahr 1930 eine historische Allianz mit der Horween Leather Company in Chicago. Gemeinsam verfeinerten sie das ehemals starre Leder zu einem erstklassigen Material für das gehobene Schuhwerk. Als dieses Modell im Jahr 1958 erstmals aufgelegt wurde, festigte es den Ruf der Alden Shoe Company als unangefochtene Instanz der Shell Cordovan-Verarbeitung. Bis heute dient diese über Jahrzehnte gewachsene Expertise anderen Betrieben als Referenz und definiert den Standard für den Umgang mit diesem anspruchsvollen Material.   Die Konstruktion des Schuhs ruht auf dem legendären Barrie-Leisten. Das Shell Cordovan in der Nuance Color 8 wird in einem mehrmonatigen, rein pflanzlichen Prozess gegerbt. Bei diesem besonderen Paar zeigt das Pferdeleder der Farbe 8 einen extrem satten, dezent ins Aubergine gehenden Unterton, der je nach Lichteinfall faszinierende Farbfacetten preisgibt. Der Schaft ist über eine umlaufende Rahmennaht mit einer doppelt gelegten Ledersohle verbunden, deren Substanz für ein langes Leben konzipiert wurde.
