For sale is a pair of Alden 987 Leisure Handsewn Black Shell Cordovan Penny Loafer Shoes Men's 10.5 B/D MSRP $919. From TheShoeMart: ”DETAILS Van Last Alden LHS. Black Shell Cordovan Leather. Leisure Handsewn Loafer. Goodyear Welted. Leather Sole. The classic leisure moc. Careful hand sewing on the last enhances the character of Alden classics, both oxfords and slip-on. Using the centuries-old method of pure vegetable tanning and hand finishing, the single tannery still producing genuine shell cordovan today is indeed practicing a rare art. The tanning process takes a full six months to complete and produces leather that is soft and supple, yet very durable. Every Alden New England shoe carries a tempered steel shank, precisely contoured and triple ribbed for extra strength. Every Alden New England shoe has full leather lining chosen from a special stock of supple glove linings and smooth glazed linings. Truly the backbone of a fine welt shoe or boot, the shank provides the proper support and shape required to give comfort throughout the day. Oak tanned leather bends are cut into outsoles at factory for maximum control of quality. Shoe Mart is proud to offer this model, crafted not only with good looks, but with the integrity of fine shoemaking, a special addition to your wardrobe.” For reference, here are the approximate measurements (taken along the outsole): Length - just under 12.5” Width (at the ball of foot) - 4.125” These shoes have seen some wear but have been maintained well. They appear to have recently been resoled (and welted), and only worn once afterward. The uppers are in very good condition, but there are some limited instances of cracking at pressure points near the throat of the shoe (see picture). That said, they appear to be stable. I cleaned these shoes, inside and out, with Weimans Leather Wipes and Weimans Leather Conditioner, deep cleaned and conditioned with Lexol Cleaner and Conditioner, deep conditioned with Saphir Médaille d'Or Lotion, and polished them with Saphir Médaille d'Or Cordovan Shoe Cream.
